Top Democratic fundraiser Clooney calls on Biden to drop out

George Clooney has recently made a strong statement calling for Joe Biden to drop out of the U.S. presidential race, following concerns raised by senior Democrat Nancy Pelosi about his ability to continue. The Hollywood actor and Democratic donor stated that Joe Biden has won many battles in his career, but the battle against time is one he cannot conquer.

These remarks come after Nancy Pelosi also expressed doubts about Biden's ability to continue, stating that time is running short for him to make a decision after his underwhelming debate performance against Donald Trump. Despite Biden's repeated determination to stay in the race and defeat Trump, Clooney expressed his concern in an opinion piece in the New York Times, emphasizing that the Joe Biden he met recently was not the same as the one he knew from previous years.

Clooney's comments have triggered a response from the Biden campaign, with an unnamed source defending the President's commitment during a fundraising event hosted by Clooney. Additionally, the campaign pointed out Biden's busy schedule, including attending the G7 summit in Italy prior to the fundraiser. George Clooney emphasized that concerns about Biden's candidacy are not solely based on his age and urged party leaders to acknowledge the evident challenges. He claimed that his worries parallel those of many members of Congress whom he has spoken with. Meanwhile, prominent figures within the Democratic Party continue to voice their doubts about Biden's candidacy, with some publicly urging him to withdraw from the race for the sake of the country. Despite the growing dissent, Joe Biden's campaign maintains its commitment to continue the race, and overall support from elected Democrats remains strong. However, internal discussions within the Democratic Party and among influential figures indicate that there is mounting concern and a push for Biden to reconsider his campaign.

Lady who wrote that Don Jazzy is impotent denies it – says she wrote important, not impotent

After taking to social media to allege that the Mavin Records boss Don Jazzy is impotent, a lady by name Queen Dina Ikoma has taken back her words, as she now claims she didn’t say the Don is impotent but said he’s important.
In her first claim, she informed that she had been having unprotected sex with Don Jazzy for a long time without conceiving. Now she says she only reached out to the Don via social media for help with her career. In her words;
“I wasn't actually referring to his sex life. Maybe Media misunderstood me. I never had sex with him before. We were just friends on social media. He promised to assist me with my career. We chatted one night but I wasn't able to chat with him again afterward. I became very eager. So I wrote about him. I meant to write “Don Jazzy is important.”
“But my smart phone’s autocorrect changed the spelling to something else, hence causing the media misinterpretation of my statement. I have never for once said that we had sex or talked about pregnancy. Please media should stop spreading the rumor about me.'” Guys please, how una see dis girl and dis her claims?

Say it now

Relationships are like journeys; they may progress very slowly at the start but before you know it, you have gone very far and a lot has happened. Trust me, you would not want to go far in your relationship and still have stuff you have not aired out to your partner.
I watched a movie some time ago that the husband was a musician and the wife had never complained about that, only for her to confide in her neighbor years into her marriage that she actually hated her husband’s style of music. Unfortunately, the neighbor let it slip in front of the husband and what a shock it was to him! You can imagine realizing that your wife had been lying all the while you believed she loved and accepted such a huge part of you.
Now, to avoid such scenarios, it best that you are up front about everything. Whatever terrible past you may have, secret bad habits or things about your partner you don’t like should be said at the start of the relationship. Don’t ever assume that the bad stuff will drive them away. I learnt a lesson: people usually don’t love you because you are all good. Open up, that is the way to dealing with whatever residue of the bad stuff may be left and if they can’t handle it and decide to walk away then it is better than living a lie. There will always be someone else who will accept you.
If there are things about your partner you don’t like, say it too ‘cos you don’t know when or how it might come out. There should be no such thing as tolerating it. What if one day you can’t take it anymore and you snap?
Say it now and save yourself the trouble later.

Show me your friend

I bet we all know the end of this particular statement above. Growing up, we recited it more as a chant and never delved into its true meaning. As I matured and had experiences, I discovered that truly, showing me your friend will tell me who you are.
The truth is that the company you keep will go a long way in determining the actions you take as an individual. Friends are our support system and thus, a large percentage will naturally confide in them about issues disturbing our peace. These advices, suggestions, and recommendations you listen to daily from them will be registered in your subconscious and may be brought to limelight when making decisions, even without the physical presence of the friends that gave them. Imagine if all that is stored in your subconscious are negative advice and suggestions that will do you no good.
"You are the average of the five persons you spend the most time with.” I did not coin this statement, Jim Rohn did and he could not have said it better. Surround yourself with people that spur you on to the achievement of your dreams; people who inspire you to be a better version of yourself. It is not about having a lot of friends but having the right ones. Be wise in your selection of people you let in your inner circle.
Show me, friend. Look at the people around you. How do they make you feel?

Signs you are washing your hair all wrong

There's a slew of things we've been doing wrong all our life, eating the wrong way, sleeping on the wrong side and washing our hair the wrong way!
Everyone desires shiny and luxuriant hair and so we resort to hair treatments and products to achieve that however, the hair care products we invest in don't seem to have much effect on our hair and that's all due to the fact that there are certain things we are doing wrong that is sabotaging our hair goals.

Drying hair with a towel
When you dry your hair with a towel, there's a friction which could lead to hair frizz-causing hair damage even if you had spent a lot of time conditioning your hair. The best thing to do is using an old t-shirt instead of your towel.

Scrubbing too hard
Scrubbing your scalp too hard in order to have squeaky clean hair and scalp does more damage than good. It actually weakens your hair and that could cause hair breakage.

Don't resort to repetitiveness
Washing and rinsing then carrying out the whole process all over again strip your hair of all moisture, this could lead to hair frizz and hair loss.
Shampoo isn't always the best choice
Using a large amount of shampoo in washing your hair always might not bode well for your hair's health. Alternate between using plain H2O and natural cleansers like African black soap instead of your regular sham-wash.

Things women do only in ads

On TV, things that aren't all that appealing are displayed and marketed in such an annoyingly artificial manner that could make you despise TV ads real quick. A case study is seeing people brush their teeth without toothpaste! And this isn't even close to being really frustrating. Here's more.
Women wearing white shorts while on their period
Like seriously? Who does that?! No woman in her right mind would give herself that type of stress.
Making wash days look so fun
It's only on TV you see females wash their hair and appear to be in ecstasy! In real life, we all despise wash days. A backache, aching in the arms and stress involved is no fun at all.
Applying lotion by caressing their legs from ankle to thighs
Yeah right, we see a lot of that and it's totally fake! Who has the time for all that crap when you've got tons of things to do!
Closing their eyes while eating ice cream to make it a more sensual experience
Yeah, ice cream is delicious, eating it is a pure delight until you remember the calories in every bite. And that's where all the fun ends unless you don't mind putting on extra weight everywhere!

Things productive women do every day

If you want your days to be more productive and fulfilling then you need to follow these steps towards being that goal-getter you want to be.
Focus on just one thing at a time
The thing about multitasking is that you are bound to get things done in the hurried and less than acceptable manner. When you take your chores one at a time you are able to concentrate fully and also come out with better results.
Make lists
Before retiring to bed at night make a list of all the things you want to do the following day then you can have a visual reminder of all the things that need to be done without dilly-dallying.
Say 'No' to Things
Not just anything though, always remember that you always have the right to make sure choice so don't waste time doing what you don't want to do or accepting offers you don't find appealing when you can as well say a big 'NO' or turn them down politely.
Create little free time between meetings
Don't set a schedule you can't follow through with, make sure there's always some wiggle time in between the time you set for meetings so you don't rush through the whole day without having time to relax.

The art of conversation

Humans cannot survive without conversation. It is the verbal give and take that fuels human communication and facilitates the way we react to each other. Without conversation, it would be difficult to know what the people in your life want, and it would be difficult to tell them what you want in return.
Conversation is more than talking though. It is about saying the right things in response to what the other person is saying, and even reading off their visual and emotional cues. It means knowing how to make your whole body speak to whomever you are talking to.
Conversation is not just with one person; in interviews and presentations and at work, it means communicating with a large group of people. Your body language at an interview could be the difference between a warm reception and being perceived as off-putting by your potential employers. There are a few things that will make you a better conversationalist.
First, you should intentionally make yourself interesting to talk to. I know this seems like a tall order, but all it involves is being knowledgeable about the world around you and being genuinely interested in other people. Nobody wants to talk to someone who only says “yes” and “no” and “okay”. Be receptive to what the other person is saying and contribute too.
People like to talk to people who are good listeners. Be genuinely interested in what they have to say and do not interrupt them. Let them finish talking before you put in your own contributions.
Make your body language be open and receptive. Do not cross your legs and arms and turn your body away from them when talking to them. Lean forward, look them in the eye and laugh at their jokes.
One facet of conversation that people take for granted is confidentiality. People tell you things and open up about themselves because they expect you to keep the things they tell you private. If people know that you are a tight ship when it comes to their affairs, they will want to talk to you more often.
Being a better conversationalist will make you interesting and sought after, and it will make communication so much easier for you and the people that talk to you

Skirt styles that flatter your body type

Skirts are a staple of every woman’s wardrobe, and wearing the right skirt can turn your look from drab to wow in a matter of minutes. This does not have to mean buying the most expensive skirts you can find. Wearing the right skirt for your body shape will make you look classy and pleasant, instead of dumpy and awkward. It will also guarantee that you are showing off your body to the greatest advantage and working your assets to the maximum.
HOURGLASS
Pencil-skirts were invented for these women. Hourglass-shaped women are just about the same size up and down, but they have the very slim waist that gives them the shape. Pencil skirts accentuate the curves on the bottom while slimming out the thighs and making your legs look longer.
PEAR-SHAPED
Pear-shaped women are slim up top but bottom heavy, with wide hips that seem to dominate their figures. To slim out their hips and make the waist thinner, A-line skirts are recommended. Midi skirts most especially draw attention to their hips while not making it seem overpowering.
APPLE-SHAPED
Apple-shaped women are heavier up top and in the stomach but slim on the bottom. They are usually busty with slim waists and hips. In this case, high-waisted pleated skirts with a bit of a flare will create the illusion of wider hips and the high waistband will camouflage the tummy.
BANANA-SHAPED
These are women whose hips, waist and shoulders are just about the same width. Clothes seem to hang on their bodies, but the right skirt can give the illusion of curves. The skirt perfect for these women are straight-cut, fitted short skirts that show off their legs. Aim for skirts that are above the knee for the maximum effect, as longer skirts will make you look even thinner. Patterned skirts will make your bottom half look fuller.

Five ways to know if you are the side chick

No one wants to ever think for a second that she might be the side chick but then it can happen to even the best of us. The signs may be obvious (or other times, he may be a very smooth criminal) yet many of us delude ourselves into thinking we are the only mosquitoes in his net thus watch out for these signs:
1.He spends more money on you than time
Players understand the principle of keeping you distracted. It is unfortunate that too many times, ladies equate his feelings with how much money is spent on them. However, he may be spending so much on you so you don’t realize that he is not spending as much time with you.
2.He shares little with you
This is a major red flag. If he does not like to tell you personal things then be warned. You are a side-chick when you don’t know details about him, his family, finances or have met only a few of his friends. Men in love are open books.
3.He is more about sex
Don’t be deceived. Sex may be a way of expressing deep feelings but it is also a plaything for the average player. If a guy keeps troubling you for sex, then he doesn’t have your best interests at heart.
4.His friends make snide comments
You would have to be very attentive to take note of this but usually, some of his friends may know of your side chick status and they may make fun of you or let something slip.
5.He is effusive in professing emotions/ not expressive enough
When a guy is either of the two extremes then be careful. He may not say it cos he doesn’t mean it or he may say it so much cos he believes it is what you want to hear.

The art of seduction

The way I define ‘seduction’ is simple. It is the art of knowing what your man wants, how he wants it and being able to give it to him. If you see it that way, would you really still sit there and call it ‘sinful’?
True enough, marriage is a holy institution. It should not be handled carelessly or corrupted in any way but that does not mean act you should pack up every feminal tool you have in your arsenal and say to yourself, “after all, I am married now and I should not act like a whore.” Excuse you! You are married. If you don’t show your husband your sexual ferocity then who do you want to bottle it up for?
Being sexually alive and going out of your way to call your man out on those terms does not make you dirty. If anything, it shows you are human. You have blood pumping in your veins and you should not act like sex is meant for the man to enjoy alone.
Tease him sexually. Lure him into your bed. That’s right. I meant what I said. Don’t be boring or make it seem like marriage robs all the fun out of sex. Make it something you two can actually look forward to. You should be able to seduce your husband, not have him refuse you. This involves knowing what he prefers in the bedroom and exquisitely serving it to him every time as long as it is not fetish like some Christian Gray freak show.
When you make sex more than just some form of basic requirement of marriage, you two will pleasure each other more and have a healthier marriage.

World’s richest woman Liliane Bettencourt dies aged 94

(FILES) This file photo taken on October 18, 2010 shows France’s richest woman, L’Oreal heiress Liliane Bettencourt being greeted prior to an award ceremony of the Bettencourt Schueller Foundation, on October 18, 2010 at the Quai Branly museum in Paris. L’Oreal heiress Liliane Bettencourt, the world’s richest woman whose old age was clouded by dementia, has died at the age of 94, her family said Thursday.
“Liliane Bettencourt died last night at home,” her daughter Francoise Bettencourt Meyers said in a statement. “My mother left peacefully.”
Bettencourt, the cosmetics giant’s principal shareholder, was the 14th richest person in the world, according to Forbes magazine, which estimated her net worth in March at $39.5 billion (33 billion euros).
She was rarely seen in public since leaving the L’Oreal board in 2012, but her name remained in the headlines as members of her entourage were charged with exploiting her failing mental health.
Bettencourt had been declared unfit to run her own affairs in 2011 after a medical report showing she had suffered from “mixed dementia” and “moderately severe” Alzheimer’s disease since 2006.
The complex legal case involved a bitter feud with her only daughter and unscrupulous friends, and even dragged in former president Nicolas Sarkozy.
Patrice de Maistre, who managed Bettencourt’s vast fortune, was accused of getting her to hand over envelopes of cash to members of Sarkozy’s right-wing UMP party during his 2007 presidential campaign.
The charges against Sarkozy were dropped in October 2013 due to lack of evidence.

Pythons, crocodiles and the Nigerian zoo

Despite very recent efforts, we remain a nation that simply does not know where it is headed to, or does not want to face what I term, realistic, reasonable and responsible approach to its diversities.

As a person I am a cautious optimist on “project Nigeria”, it is one that I put my whole heart on, despite the counsel of a statesman who once told me “Nigeria was not worth dying for…you must live for it.”
Despite very recent efforts, we remain a nation that simply does not know where it is headed to, or does not want to face what I term, realistic, reasonable and responsible approach to its diversities.
The ethnic conundrum of our existence continues to hunt and haunt us being one of the major obstacles to the existence of the Nigerian state. Beginning with the transition from colonial to neo-colonial dependence, military and back to the current brand democracy. The conflict spiral generated by ethnicity can be seen at all the critical phases in Nigeria, its democracy, the party system, the electoral process and the sharing of the national cake via offices and resources.  Almost all our conflicts, controversies and interests all narrow down to who is from where? Even the way we are reported: Mr. Buhari from Muslim North, or Mr. Jonathan from predominately Christian South.
The truth is that as much as some form of true federalism or on the extreme confederacy, resource control and largely self determination is desirable, however, the complexity of ethnicity in Nigeria can only be properly understood in the context of power struggle among various factions of the ruling class, especially within the context of the lower class ignorance through manipulation. The empirical fact being that ethnicity cannot be deconstructed because we have a faulty form of state and a morally bankrupt class in power.
Ethnicity has been also constantly shifting because of a fluid and dynamic nature of changing interests, for example, a hitherto unknown South-South (which contextually in English is wrong) or a salient Northeast, then a newspaper Middle Belt, a political one, and also a geographical Middle Belt remain real. It has simply varied as demands change or as the social injustice is perceived, from the rigid North/South and Christian/Muslim divide, and today Nigeria/Biafra.
It is difficult to prefix a particular political tendency to the collectivism of an ethnic group because as the Nigerian example suggests, different political tendencies can be expressed within a particular ethnic group, like the differences between the Ohaneze ndi Igbo and MASSOB, IPOB and that of the Afenifere fon awon Yoruba and the OPC.
It has been recently easy for everyone to have an understanding of the term ethnicity within a narrow conceptualisation. This is rather a faulty assumption. For one, there is a tendency to conflate ethnicity with other social phenomena that share similar features especially those that fall within primordial and communal identities like tribalism, favouritism, the Biafran struggle, Resource control, MEND, Boko Haram, MASSOB, OPC et al.
There could also be the tendency to see ethnicity as the natural outcome of existence of ethnic groups, which again is wrong. The fact that like any other portmanteau word, it can serve as a euphemistic substitute for other appellations led to abuse, precisely as it has no independent existence of its own. It continues to be driven by class interests or the quest for power. In our Nigeria today as always it has taken greater meaning in the competitive situations where available resources are scarce in relation to the interests that grow around them.
The major issue in the ethnic struggle is the phenomenon of politicised ethnicity. More often than not, ethnicity is invoked by interests, which are not necessarily described in ethnic terms.
As Claude Ake once put it, conflicts arising from the construction of ethnicity to conceal exploitation by building solidarity across class lines, conflicts arise from appeals to ethnic support in the face of varnishing legitimacy, and from the manipulation of ethnicity for obvious political gains and not ethnic problems, but problems of particular dynamics which are pinned on ethnicity. This is the Nigerian situation.
The contradictory tendencies of ethnicity are obvious today and the need to provide important safeguard against centralisation and authoritarian tendencies has once more arisen. The problem we have is that the mobilisation of ethnicity as a way out has more often than not been for some few people’s material benefit and this has given rise to the questions of citizenship rights, statism, indigeneship/settler palaver. To an extent this has become a veritable tool that is internalised and used as a crisis generating mechanism and obstacle to democracy.
Deep ethnic fears generated by in-built structures that promote unequal access to power and resources is being exploited, and is part of the government’s dilemma at all levels. As a nation and a people we continue to think like birds born in a cage that think flying is an illness. So let me tell a story and leave men of good conscience to fight for the soul of this nation that is at war with herself.

Three sons left home, went out into the business world and all prospered. Getting back together, they discussed the gifts they were able to give their elderly mother. The first said, “I built a big house for our mother.” The second said, “I sent her the latest Mercedes with a driver.”
The third smiled and said, “I’ve got you both beat. You know how much Mother enjoys reading poetry? And you know she can’t see very well. So I sent her a remarkable parrot that recites all her favourite poetry. It took a world-famous literacy teacher 12 years to teach him and cost me hundreds of thousands of dollars to see to his maintenance yearly. He’s one of a kind. Mother just has to name the poem, and the parrot recites it.”
Soon thereafter, Mother sent out her letters of thanks:
“Milton,” she wrote to the first son, “The house you built is so huge. I live in only one room, but I have to clean the whole house.” “Gerald,” she wrote to the second, “I am too old to travel. I stay most of the time at home, so I rarely use the Mercedes. And the driver is so rude!” “Dearest Donald,” she wrote to her third son, “You have the good sense to know what your mother likes. The chicken was absolutely delicious!
I always have stated I wished Nigeria currently was not about Buhari, Nnamdi, APC, PDP and change, sadly it is not, rather it is about the different narratives which often than not betray our sense of emotion. We act in the now, we continue to pour venoms on each other, and fact is we really do not know what we want. We don’t know the story, but we know our side of the story and our desires. We have plenty narratives, and we are all angry. Everyone is right, and yet wrong!
My friend in the DSS happens to be a Christian, he is Fulani, and owns a very big farm, yet viewed with suspicion, both by his Fulani family and the larger public. My Ibo neighbour is a perpetual target, and his crime; being Ibo.
I am more terrified by our lack of knowledge than by the incidents that we know of. We have unknown unknowns, we are just telling stories. You and I, need to think Nigeria without losing our identity, as it is with the wild, every animal species needs to find, evolve and work with a system that suits it and promises survival for it in the habitat Nigerians need to become noble in understanding themselves: are we ready.’ Only time will tell.

Lagos moves to secure schools in riverine, vulnerable areas

Imohimi Edgal

Plans arrest of okada riders on restricted routes
To prevent a reoccurrence of the kidnap of students and pupils, the Lagos State Government says it has set up a joint tactic squad to heighten security within and around model colleges and all schools in the riverine and other vulnerable areas of the state.
The state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Imohimi Edgal, disclosed this yesterday after the monthly security council meeting chaired by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and attended by commanders of security formations operating in the state.
He said the state government had also resolved to vigorously enforce the state traffic law prohibiting operation of commercial motorcyclists, popularly known as okada riders, in certain routes across the state. Edgal said the enforcement of the ban on okada riders would take place immediately after another round of public enlightenment campaign on the dangers and security implications of riding okada on restricted routes.
He said: “I have taken a tour of all the model colleges; all lapses observed have been noted by the Council and the governor has given instruction that all those lapses be taken care of immediately. We now have joint tactic guards of both the police and the military in all model schools to heighten security.”
The CP, who stated that the Council also deliberated and reviewed the security situation in the state, especially now that the Ember months had set in, and resolved to increase police presence across the state, said the Council had approved the resuscitation of the joint inter-agency raid committee that would take care of raid on areas that are designated as black-spots where criminals hibernate, such as uncompleted buildings, markets, among others.
Besides, the commissioner of police disclosed that all those involved in the heinous murder of the winner of 2007 Gulder Ultimate Search, Hector Jobateh, had been arrested, including the principal suspect who fired the shot that killed the victim, saying that all the suspects would soon be charged to court.
He, however, urged members of the public to continue to support the police with useful information and tips. Meanwhile, the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tunji Bello, who also spoke after the meeting, said the Council had deliberated on the recent restriction order on inter-state buses along Ikorodu Road and that all the identified setbacks had been considered and were being addressed

NNPC commences prospecting for hydrocarbon in Sokoto basin

NNPC

• DPR allays fear of fuel scarcity
The Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) said it has started the process that will lead to the exploitation of oil and gas in the Sokoto basin.
NNPC’s Group Managing Director, Maikanti Kachalla Baro, stated this when he received the Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, who paid a working visit to the NNPC Towers in Abuja.
A statement by Tambuwal’s spokesman, Malam Imam Imam, quoted him as saying that “We have been on the issue of exploration in the frontier basins and so far some measures of steps have been taken. We have already purchased aeromagnetic data and it is being interpreted to determine the sedimentary thickness and the basin configuration.
“Secondly, we have awarded a contract for the geological mapping of the basin and I am happy to state here that outcop samples have been collected, mapped, analysed and geological modeling executed so as to ensure data integration,” the GMD stated. He said that discussions were going on with Integrated Data Services Limited (IDSL), to award contract for surface geochemistry, ground gravity and magnetics in order to determine if hydrocarbon was generated in the basins and integrate all dates for understanding of petroleum systems of the basins.
Baro said the NNPC would also carry out a high-resolution regional 2D seismic data acquisition to identify leads and prospects, after which a 3D seismic data acquisition will be carried out over leads and prospects.
“After all these are carried out, we will then begin to drill for oil and gas in the basin,” he added. He commended Tambuwal for the visit and assured that the corporation was giving the required attention to renewable energy and inland basins in order to create a prosperous future for the entire county.
Earlier, Tambuwal said studies have been carried out by the state on the Sokoto Basins, the result of which would be made available to the NNPC to aid its efforts. He said the government, in collaboration with the Usman Danfodio University, would organise a national conference on the Sokoto Basin in October where international scholars would make presentations.
“We are inviting you and the NNPC to take part in this important conference because we believe it will add value to our search for hydrocarbon in the Sokoto Basin.”
He said records indicate that the presence of hydrocarbon in the Sokoto Basin has been a subject of interest to geologists for long, a situation that made Italian oil giants, Elf, to consider preliminary exploration activities since the 50s.
He said the state would welcome the start of activities and support any effort that would lead to positive result.
In another development, the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), yesterday allayed the fears of residents of Ogun State over impending fuel scarcity, warning them not to engage in panic buying of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly called petrol.
Oil workers under the aegis of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) partook in the suspended strike called by the United Labour Congress (ULC).
The Chief Inspection Officer, Lagos Zonal Officer, Umar Mohammed, who led a monitoring team and journalists to inspect some fuel stations in Abeokuta, the State capital stated that the DPR was being proactive to stem panic buying as a result of the rumours of impending fuel scarcity.
His words: “We are here to do a general check on distribution pattern, that is, the sales going on in the retail outlets. By doing so, we are being proactive against hoarding of products.”

Court refuses to join Alison-Madueke as defendant in alleged $1.6b oil scam

Former Minister of Petroleum, Alison-Madueke

The Federal High Court, Abuja, yesterday rejected the application by former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, to be joined as defendant in the ongoing trial of Chairman, Atlantic Energy Drilling Concept Nigeria Limited, Mr. Jide Omokore.
The court, however, struck out the count eight of the nine charges where Diezani’s name was mentioned, which alleged that the applicant, (Diezani), and three others did abet the commission of money laundering by certain named individuals, and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 18 (a) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011.
Omokore, Atlantic Energy Drilling Concept Nigeria Limited, Atlantic Energy Brass Development Limited, Victor Briggs, Abiye Membere and David Mbanefo, are facing trial over alleged $1.6 billion crude oil frau Diezani, through her counsel, Onyebuchi Ikpeazu (SAN), yesterday argued that her application would not prejudice the criminal trial but afford her the opportunity to be heard in the interest of fair-hearing.
She also told the judge that dismissing her application would amount to gross violation of her constitutional rights. But counsel to Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Aliyu Yusuf, urged the court to refuse Diezani’s application.
Justice Nnamdi Dimgba, in his ruling, held that the EFCC could not eat its cake and have it because by including Diezani’s name in count eight, the commission ought to make her one of the defendants, saying: “It looks like a blackmail.”
The judge, who stressed that in that regard the court would have no option than to strike out count eight of the charge where Diezani’s name was mentioned, therefore, adjourned trial of the substantive matter till October 5 and 6.

Be fair to minorities in Nigeria, Atiku tells Buhari

Atiku applauded President Muhammadu Buhari for drawing the United Nations (UN) attention to the sufferings of Myanmar’s Rohingya people cited by the UN as perhaps the world’s most persecuted minorities.

Former Vice President and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Atiku Abubakar, yesterday urged President Muhammadu Buhari to provide the world a good example in the way minorities are treated in the country.
Atiku applauded President Muhammadu Buhari for drawing the United Nations (UN) attention to the sufferings of Myanmar’s Rohingya people cited by the UN as perhaps the world’s most persecuted minorities. The former vice president spoke via a statement issued in Abuja by his media office in reaction to President Buhari’s presentation at the UN General Assembly in New York, United States.
He stressed that minorities all over the world deserve the cooperation of majority groups, adding that he is convinced that Nigeria would also provide the world a good example in the way the country treats its minority groups.‎“It is my sincere desire that arising from President Buhari’s speech, the UN will increase its support to Nigeria and her neighbours in the Lake Chad Region as we redouble our efforts to rid the region of the scourge of terrorism and restore peace and prosperity to a once thriving zone.‎”

How to get loan from BoI (3)

By Emeka Anieto with Your Business and Your Bank IN continuation with this series on Bank of Industry, BoI, we continue listing some basic pre-requisites for businesses wishing to get loan from the BoI, one of which is the collateral requirements. However, the Bank says it can also lend to start-ups, (less than three years but already commenced business) at its discretion and on a case-by-case basis. But it also requires that the new business owner would need to provide proof of cognate experience in its business area and would need to have a highly qualified management and operational team with sound management structure on ground to get BoI’s loan approval
