I bet we all know the end of this particular statement above. Growing up, we recited it more as a chant and never delved into its true meaning. As I matured and had experiences, I discovered that truly, showing me your friend will tell me who you are.
The truth is that the company you keep will go a long way in determining the actions you take as an individual. Friends are our support system and thus, a large percentage will naturally confide in them about issues disturbing our peace. These advices, suggestions, and recommendations you listen to daily from them will be registered in your subconscious and may be brought to limelight when making decisions, even without the physical presence of the friends that gave them. Imagine if all that is stored in your subconscious are negative advice and suggestions that will do you no good.
"You are the average of the five persons you spend the most time with.” I did not coin this statement, Jim Rohn did and he could not have said it better. Surround yourself with people that spur you on to the achievement of your dreams; people who inspire you to be a better version of yourself. It is not about having a lot of friends but having the right ones. Be wise in your selection of people you let in your inner circle.
